Generally that's a bad sign. One thing you can try though is this: On the front of the transmission near the shifter there is a little triangle looking cap with a screw in it. Take that cap off. Be careful as there is a spring and ball down in there. Put some oil down into the hole. Then try to shift the shifter. If it moves, put the ball and spring back then put the cap back on. Try moving the shifter around and see if it's able to be shifted. If not, you will need to do some more oiling and messing around to get things freed up.

If it will not shift with the ball and spring out of that hole, your transmission has internal problems and will need to be looked at by a technician.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
