Q:

Thank you for your question. I'm sorry you are having this problem with the battery. The most likely reason for this will be a weak battery. First charge the battery for 1 hr. at 10 amps or 4 hours at 2 amps, to make sure it's fully charged. If you have a meter, with the engine off check the battery voltage for 11.9 to 12.1 vdc. If the reading is below 11.9 the battery is weak and will need to be replaced. If it's ok, then check the voltage across the battery terminals at full throttle for 13.9 vdc. If this voltage is there, it will indicate the charging system is ok and the battery is weak. If this voltage is not there, another check will be to see if, there is 28 volts ac out of the alternator on the yellow wires. If this voltage is not there, the alternator will need to be replaced. Be very careful when making these checks. If you would like to have a technician check this, I'm listing a site you can access, to have a tech come out. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services. I hope this will help you.

Q:

What keeps the clutch on my lawn tractor model 917256701 from spinning?

A:

The bracket is the clutch locator and the locknut adjustments are what keep the clutch stationary.

The image below contains the procedure for adjusting the clutch plate. Be sure to check the clearance between the clutch plate and rotor at .012 inches.
