To access the fuel tank on your tractor you will need to remove the rear fender assembly. If you look behind the rear wheels on the edge of the chassis you will see bolts that have to come out. Then lower down the fender where it connects to the foot rests there are bolts that need to come out. Lift the seat and there will be bolts there that must come out as well. If memory serves me correct, on this model the seat bracket also has to come off. Once you have the fenders screws loose you can remove the fuel cap and then lift and pull backwards slightly to remove the fender assembly and then you will be looking at the fuel tank.

Thank you for using Manage My Life!

Transmission question about Craftsman Kohler Lawn Tractor Model #917256591

A:

Your tractor is most likely going into gear but the axle is spinning inside the rim instead of moving the tractor. When you removed the rear wheel you likely did not notice the "square key #77" that fits into the groove inside the axle opening of the rim. See image below. The square key must align with the groove in the axle when the wheel is slid back over the axle. The "square key" likely fell off when you removed the wheel and it's laying on the floor/grass. If the key is put back on the axle and the key fits into the groove of the rim when you slide the tire back on then your tractor will move. If the key is missing the axle will spin freely within the rim and the tractor will not move.
