Brakes 917254850 Craftsman Lawn, tractor

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

This Dana transaxle model 4360-48 would use friction pucks for the disc brake. The pucks were part numbers 120951X and 120961X. Unfortunately, they are no longer available and we do not have any stock left.

If you Google the part numbers above, you very well may still see some offered on sites like Ebay or Amazon. I would purchase a few of each for spares.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

Q:

Riding mower steering gears slipping. 917254850 Craftsman Lawn, tractor

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

There are essentially 2 places where slack will end up and cause this to happen. Most often I see it between the shaft and shaft support. Once there is slack there it's just a matter of time before the shaft gear starts to jump teeth on the sector gear.

The 2nd place I see the problem often is due to slack on the pitman arm. If you add washers to the end of the pitman arm that should take that slack out.

Outside of that, the only other reasons for this to occur are a worn sector gear or steering shaft. Nothing else will cause this to happen. You may need to inspect the components above and replace them as needed. It sounds like you’re steering needs to be serviced.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.
