Question and Answers

Q:

Why won't my mower move? 917254531

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the tractor. In the details of your question, you did not state if the brake pedal would spring back when you release it. If the brake pedal is not coming, back the problem could be the parking brake is set or the clutch return spring is broken. To determine if it is the spring, I recommend starting the tractor and put it in first gear. Once it is in gear try to pull the pedal back with your foot. If the pedal comes back and the tractor drives I suspect the clutch spring is broken. The spring connects between the idler arm and the frame. The part number for the spring is 105709X and can be ordered from the following link. Clutch return spring for Craftsman tractor model 917254531.

If the pedal will not come back when you pull on it, I recommend checking the parking brake lever. Push in on the brake pedal and then push the lever down. While holding the lever down, release the brake.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Aashe, Thank you for taking the time to find a belt that fits a 38" deck. I still want to wait to see if I get to the bottom of this and if that is indeed a belt that will work with my model. Since thisis my first time asking a question on this site, can you give me an idea as to how long it might take to get an expert answer? THANKS!

I show that the 131290 belt is correct for your mower deck. I verified this with the support information from the manufacturer. This leads me to believe there is something else going on. One thing to do is check on the belt itself to make sure the belt number is the correct number. Sometimes a belt will come with a cardboard wrapper on it and the wrong belt could be in the right wrapper.

If you do indeed have the 131290 belt then check on the mower deck how you have it installed and check the "clutching" mechanism on the mower deck to make sure it is able to move completely.

Let me know what you find on it.

Thank you for using Manage My Life!

Thank you for your question.

I have checked our fit up books and the snow blades that will fit your tractor are 486.24428 and 48624441. Model 486.24428 is the old model that you may find used. If you are looking to buy a new snow blade, the model number is going to be 486.24441. Please click on this link to view the new snow blade .
