Q:

need a new muffler for my tractor 110886x substitute 917.254421

Q:

blades wont engage 917254421 Craftsman Lawn, tractor

A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com. I regret to hear that you are having issues with your mower and do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. Im looking at your model number 917254421  from your description it seems like the PTO switch is bad.  This could be cause by a defective safety switch. I recommend starting the tractor and releasing the brake. If the engine dies I recommend checking the seat switch. Your tractor most likely uses an Operator Presence (seat) switch that will cause engine to stall if blades are engaged or the brake is released without anyone on the seat. If ample amount of weight is not kept on the seat during operation or the operator is leaning forward the tractor will stall because the Operator Presence (seat) switch senses that the operator is not completely on the seat.  If you have further questions please resubmit your question for further information.

Q:

blade engadgement switch 917254421

A:

Yes that is correct. By bypassing the switch all you are doing is allowing the current to travel to the next switch. All other switches and functions will continue to work. The PTO switch more than likely going bad.
