Question and Answers

Q:

won't start 917252540 Craftsman Lawn tractor

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com. I will be more than happy to assist you. I can understand any frustration you may have experienced with regards to your unit. Let’s see what we can do for you.

Based on the information I’m showing there could be a couple different issues that could be causing this. The first thing that would cause this would be if you’re not getting proper fuel, air, or spark to the unit. It could just be as basic as a tune up changing the air filter, spark plug, fuel filter, and oil.

You also may have hit the blades against a post or a root or something that caused the pin in engine shaft to be partially sheared causing the timing to become premature and causing the backfire.

Hope this information has helped you. If you are not comfortable doing this repair you can click here to schedule a technician or call toll free 1-800-469-4663. Again, thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com.

Q:

smoking wire 917252540 Craftsman Lawn tractor

A:

There's a wiring diagram on page 29 of your owner's manual. Page 30 shows the wiring connectors on your tractor. I recommend that you use the wiring diagram and wiring connector diagram to determine what that black wire connects to. It may be the wire that goes to the alternator. You may have a bad alternator, a shorted diode or a short to ground in the wire harness that is causing that wire to smoke.

I hope that this information helps. If you need further assistance, let us know.

Thanks for choosing Sears PartsDirect.

Q:

carberator issues

A:

Good morning..... You're doing a good job at trying to resolve this leaking/not starting issue. It would be very helpful if you could include your full model number. With fuel leaking from the base of the carb you'll probably need new gaskets. I did locate a link that will discuss your situation in greater detail. Though this link discusses a different model number, the mechanics are likely going to be very similar. Keep in mind that an expert will be responding within the next two business days if not sooner and will likely offer you more information and instruction. I hope this link will help guide you as to what might be wrong with your tractor and have a nice day.

Thank you for your question.  I am sorry you are having a problem with the tractor engine. If fuel is leaking from the carburetor, I suspect the needle and seat are not sealing. Usually this is caused by debris in the fuel intake. To cure this you can try to clean the internal parts and fuel inlet on the carburetor. I found a video that shows how to rebuild the carburetor. Click here to watch the video. after you clean the carburetor, reassemble the engine and check the operation. If it still will not start, I recommend checking the fuel to the carburetor and the voltage on the wire going to the bottom of the carburetor. You should have 12 volts on that wire when the key is in the run position and someone on the seat. If you have these, I recommend replacing the carburetor. The parts for the engine can be ordered from the following link. Replacement parts for Kohler engine model CV15S-41519.    I hope this is helpful. Please feel free to reply below if you need any further assistance.   Thank you for using Manage my life. Mark T.
