Question and Answers

Q:

yard pro riding mower

A:

It is very important knowing the the correct fluid to put in your Riding Mower to avoid the risk of damaging the Mower. I have taken the time to research the information however was not able to locate the model number. While you are waiting for your expert response I recommend verifying the correct model number for a more accurate response from the expert than resubmit the question with the the correct model number.

The model number you provided is not bringing up any information for me. To be sure I am getting you the information you need I will have to have any and all numbers on the machine (including the serial number).

You can reply back to me here on this thread with that information and I will find the transmission information.

Thank you for using Manage My Life!

It turns out that tractor was not made by MTD like I'd thought at first. It was made by American Yard Products. They were bought out by Husqvarna some time ago. The problem we have is that we still cannot seem to locate any information on this model other than it is a 1994 model. Check under the seat to see if there is are any stickers outside of the tractor model and serial numbers. sometimes there is a transmission ID tag under the seat. maybe even on the bottom of the seat. If there is nothing there, check along the back of the transmission to see if there is a stick, metal tag, or inscription of any sort. Also, tell me about the transmission. does it have a high range and low range with 3 low forward 3 high forward and 1 each reverse? Or is the shifter 1-5, 1-6, or a hydro (automatic)? If you have your owner's manual for the tractor, do they list a part number for the transmission?

That help a lot. I still do not have any information on that tractor, but I do know that it's the same basic design as the Craftsman model 917.251660. the hood is not the same, but the rest of the tractor will be very close. I was able to pull the information on the transmission either way. I have attached the procedure to change the fluid on the trans and I have attached it. In case you cannot see it for some reason, the transmission needs Mobil 1 15w50 synthetic and takes 45ounces with a new filter. the Hydro system holds about 60 ounces of fluid, but you cannot drain it all out as the tractor sits. only 75% of the oil will come out. If you need any further assistance, please let me know.

I caught this thread while trying to do some research on my Craftsman tractor. I have the 917.251660 you mentioned but am having trouble learning much about it. I bought it used and the people who sold it to me only had a vague idea of its history. 1. Do you know when this model was produced? 2. The mower lift mechanism is missing from mine and it appears that it had an electric lift. Do you know if it can be converted to a standard manual lever-style lift? 3. When pulling a loaded trailer or disc with weights the hydrostatic drive will occasionally fail to engage properly. Is this a low/bad fluid issue or should I be figuring on a rebuild of the drive unit? Any help you can provide would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
