Question and Answers

Q:

Can you help me with a fuel delivery problem?

A:

The device on the bottom of the carburetor is the fuel shut off solenoid. When you turn the ignition switch to on, you should hear it click as the plunger is drawn into the coil. This is probably your problem.

You can remove the fuel line from the carburetor and raise it so the fuel doesn't run out and unscrew the solenoid from the bottom of the carburetor. Usually if you clean the plunger and shaft, it will work. You can test it while it is out of the carburetor. Turn the ignition switch to on and help the plunger close, you should feel the magnetism pulling on the plunger.

If you feel the magnetism, clean the plunger with some carburetor cleaner or WD40 and try it. If it snaps the plunger into the solenoid, it is good. You can reinstall it.

The fuel pump is located with one hose coming from the fuel tank to it, one hose going from the fuel pump to the carburetor, and one hose going to the block of the engine. The pulse from the engine hose makes the fuel pump pump fuel.
