Q:

I own a Sears Craftsman tractor Model 917251491. The depress pedal is stuck. Apparently the spring broke off. Is there only one spring to be replaced?

When it comes to replacing parts on your Tractor it can be really frustrating without any instructions. Hello,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems with your tractor. I have included a diagram of the spring in question at the end of this reply.

Here is a link to the ground drive parts for your tractor and 149412 is a direct link to the spring.

I would ensure that the linkage is not bound by any debris and that it is not bent or bound in any way by pulling up on it. It should not have much resistance when you pull it up and if it does, there are further issues.

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the tractor. I will be happy to assist you. I posted an image below that shows the part I think you are replacing. Just click on the image to enlarge it. If this is the correct part, it is best to remove the mower deck first. This will give better access to the bracket. The second image shows how to remove the mower deck. Once it is removed, Set the parking brake, and remove the drive belt. Then Remove the bolts that secure the bracket to the frame. I think the bolts are the engine mount bolts. They might have nuts that secure them on the top. Once the bolts are removed, you should be able to remove the bracket. To install the bracket just reverse these steps. Be sure to align the anti rotation pin up with the clutch. When it is in the proper position the clutch will not turn. Then tighten the mounting bolts.

I hope this is helpful. If I am thinking of the wrong bracket, please reply below.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
