Question and Answers

Q:

Can I still use the stove top if I remove the broken bake element?

A:

Yes, you can remove and disconnect the broken bake element and use the surface burners only. NOTE: Disconnect the power supply to the range or disconnect the power cord before removing the broken bake element. After removing and disconnecting the broken bake element, tape the ends of both wire spades on the end of the two wires so there is no chance of them shorting to ground. Even though you are not going to turn the oven on, one of the two wires will have 120 volts supplied to as long the power cord is plugged in and powered up. So, make sure you turn the power off before removing the bake element and tape up both ends of the wire spades on the ends of each wire before you plug the range back in or turn the power supply back on.

Q:

Why won't the surface indicator light go out?

A:

For the indicator light to stay on, one of the infinite switches that control the top burners has a stuck contact. Each switch will have a terminal marked P and it has a yellow wire connected to it. This is the terminal that feeds the indicator light. Disconnect power to the range and disconnect the yellow wire from each switch one at a time. In other words unplug the power cord and disconnect the wire from a switch and reconnect the power cord. If the light stays on follow the same procedure with the next switch until the light goes out. If the light goes out when a small burner is selected, switch # WB24T10029 will be needed. If it's a large burner, switch # WB24T10025 will be needed.
