Q:

kenmore elite oven made a black mushroom cloud out of the top!

A:

Thank you for your question. I am sorry you experienced such a traumatic experience with the range. It does sound like a breaker has tripped. Whether the breaker caused the issue with the range or the range caused the breaker to trip needs to be examined. The thermostat, part #WB20K5020 likely needs to be replaced, but the wiring, terminal block, oven element, and control needs to be checked as well.  The top should be able to be cleaned to remove the smoke damage.  Make sure the drip pan under the burners does not have any build up of grease as well as the oven. I highly recommend having a technician diagnose and make repairs.  You can schedule a technician at Sears Home Services. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Pvalde2 posted a link for the owner's manual on your range in the above response. That manual has the image that I provided below that shows how to slide the door back onto the hinges of that range. That is the only visual instructions that we have for that model of range. Although we have access to many display models, we do not have that particular type of range among our displays. Those are the only visual instructions that we have. Here are a couple of tips that may help:

  1. Make sure that the hinges are in the stop position as shown in the image below.
  2. Line up the door at the same angle as the hinges.
  3. Two people may be needed to line up the hinges with the slots in the bottom of the door.

I hope that this information helps. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details and we will try to assist you further.
