Question and Answers

Q:

What does "F3" fault code mean on my Kenmore gas range?

A:

The fault code "F3" indicates an open oven temperature sensor or open temperature sensor circuit. The oven temperature sensor has likely failed however there could also be a loose or bad temperature sensor circuit connection too between the sensor and the oven control board.

Replacing the oven temperature sensor will likely resolve the "F3" fault code. The oven temperature sensor is located protruding through the back wall inside the oven. It can be removed and replaced from inside the oven cavity. The temperature sensor is part #WB21X5301 which can be ordered ship to you from Sears Parts Direct .

Q:

Why does "F3" display when I turn my Kenmore range on to bake, broil or clean?

A:

The "F3" fault code indicates a temperature sensor or temperature sensor circuit failure. The failure could be the oven temperature sensor probe, the sensor circuit or it could be the oven control board. The oven temperature sensor can be removed from inside the oven cavity and tested with an ohm meter. The oven temperature sensor probe should measure 1100 ohms of resistance at room temperature. If the sensor measures 1100 ohms then the control board has likely failed. If the oven sensor does not measure approximately 1100 ohms at room temperature, replace the oven sensor. The oven sensor is part #WB21X5301 at $73.49 and the oven control board is part #338692 at $338.49.

I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose the failure.
