Question and Answers

Q:

Kenmore 9117238312 gas oven ignitor

A:

A non working Oven is not something any of us want to see. If you are technically handy, this is a good site to get instruction and fix some things yourself. If you do not feel confident doing your own repairs, an option is to visit Sears Home Services and use the scheduler. While you wait for the expert to review your model, you can check the bottom link for some possibilities. Hope this is of help.

I am handy, and willing to attempt repair myself. Again, the oven works fine, you just have to listen to the ignitor click away the entire time it is on. If I knew what part would cause this problem, I can order it on the Sears website.

There are several different failures that could cause the spark igniter on that oven burner to keep clicking constantly. An alignment problem with that spark igniter could cause it to spark constantly. You could have a clog in the ports of the burner around that igniter or you could have a bad spark module. A gas supply problem to that oven burner could also cause this failure. I recommend that you have a service technician diagnose and repair this problem. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .

If you want to fix this problem yourself, I recommend that you unplug the range and shut off the gas supply. Pull the oven bottom panel out and check the bake burner for a spill on that back of that burner around the igniter. Check the igniter electrode for damage. You may try replacing that electrode and/or the spark module to fix this problem. You can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website.

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will try to assist you further.

Q:

Why won't the spark ignition light the pilot light for the oven in my Kenmore gas range model 911.7238312?

A:

Since you no longer get a spark when turning on the oven valve, it is possible that you have a problem with the oven thermostat or the wiring. A problem with the spark module could also cause this problem. The thermostat for this range is no longer available in the parts information that I have on this range. I recommend that you have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure. Since it is an older model with limited repair parts available, you may consider replacing the range instead of repairing it.
