Question and Answers

Q:

I have a Kenmore elite 30' wall oven. It will no longer will hold set temperature.

A:

The oven not heating properly can keep your baked goods from being evenly cooked and I am sorry for the inconvenience. I did some research and I was able to find a link with a similar question. I hope this helps while you wait for your expert response.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

First; confirm that the bake and broil elements will operate. If both oven elements will operate then it could have a faulty oven temperature sensor or electronic oven control.

There are only two components which regulate the oven temperatures; the electronic oven control and the oven temperature sensor probe. I recommend disconnecting the oven temperature sensor probe and measuring the Ohm resistance with an Ohm meter. The oven temperature sensor is located inside the oven cavity on the back wall. The oven temperature sensor probe should have an Ohm resistance measurement of approximately 1100 Ohms at room temperature. If it measures close to 1100 Ohms, I suspect a faulty electronic oven control.

I added a YouTube video showing how to test an oven temperature sensor.

This may be the issue. If not, please reply and I will be glad to assist you further.

I want to test my temp sensor, and have it loose. Can I pull the connector through the insulation into the oven or do I have to take the oven out of the cabinet to access the connector?

A:

Dennis: If the opening is large enough and the sensor wiring is long enough, you should be able to pull it through and disconnect it.

Joey, I was able to remove the sensor from the inside of the oven. Wire nuts were used to make the connections. The sensor tested above 1000 ohms. I'm using analog. I'm guessing it is good?/. I've put it back together and fired it up. I always warm up the oven on convection, its faster. I set bake to 350 and waited 20 minutes and it was at 350. 20 minutes later it had risen to 400. I'll use the oven for a while and decide what to do next. How accurate is the displayed temp?? I'm using 2 oven thermometers and they are with 5 degrees of each other. Have a blessed day Dennis

A:

Dennis: The display temperature should be accurate within a few degrees. I would monitor the operating temperatures and see what happens. It's not abnormal for the temp to rise above the set temperature and fall below. Add the lowest temp to the highest temp and divide the temperature swing in half to get the average oven temperature.

A:

Dennis: The parts diagram does indicate what the convection element resistance should measure. The bake element should have a resistance measurment of 16.8 Ohms and the broil element should be 14.4 Ohms. The convection element should be 22 Ohms.

Joey, I checked the bake ( 17 ohm) and broil (15 omh) elements. I decide to not check convection element. My oven temp comp is set at +20 F. What would you suggest I do?

A:

Dennis: Since the temperature sensor is Okay and the oven elements are Okay; the only component left controlling the element operation is the electronic oven control.

Q:

What does "F7" fault code indicate on my double wall oven?

A:

The "F7" fault code is indicating either a failure in the Key pad or the Electronic control board. See image I added below for further diagnostic test. NOTE: If you do not feel confident and safe in disconnecting the ribbon connector after pushing the Clear/OFF pad, I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your oven.
