Thank you Morgan. I really appreciate it you finding that info for me. The last page, I think it is #5 did not scale up to a bigger resolution. Can this Installation Manual be added to this product on your searspartsdirect.com so I can print it out. Not sure why it isn't there but our wall oven installation was in manuals at searspartsdirect.com. Maybe you can make that happen. Hope so. Thanks again, Karen

Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question about your Kenmore Radiant Cooktop. I am so sorry to hear the large burner is only half working. I know how inconvenient it is when an appliance doesn't work the way it should. I will be happy to help you with this.

I assume we are talking about the large front element that has two cooking zones, the smaller 6 inch zone, and the larger 9 inch zone. This would be the element that when you push the knob in and turn it to the left, the small element heats up, and you have to turn it to the right to use the larger part of it. When a part of this element isn't working, there are a few things that could be the issue. The wiring, the switch that controls the element, or the element itself. I recommend checking the wiring and the switch first, before replacing the element. I have included the parts diagram for the cooktop so you can see how the parts line up.

SAFETY WARNING: To access the parts for testing, you will first need to disconnect power to the range. You can do that by either unplugging it, or turning off the power at the breaker. If you recently used the cooktop, let it cool completely before starting.

I recommend you start by checking the wiring. Look for a loose connection or parts of the wiring that are burnt or frayed. If you see damage to the wiring, replace the wire harness. I have included the link to order that part in case you need it.

To test the switch you will need to unplug the wiring from it. Before you do that, be sure to make note of how the wiring is hooked up to make it easier to reconnect it later. To test the switch you will need a multimeter. Based on the instructions that came with the multimeter, set it to the lowest setting for ohms resistance. Then calibrate the meter. Next set the infinite swith to high. Touch one probe to the terminal labeled L2. With the other probe touch the terminal labeled H2. If the meter doesn't move, or the ohms are infinity, the switch is faulty and should be replaced. I have included the link for the switch for you.

If the wiring and the switch is fine, that leaves the element itself. To remove the element, pull it out of the terminal block. Place the element on a flat surface. Plug the red terminal wire into the multitester in the positive (+) jack. Plug the black terminal wire into the multitester in the negative (-) jack. Set the mulitester dial to the RX1 setting. (Lowest setting for low ohm appliances.) Place each probe on a terminal on the element (where the element plugs into the top of the stove. If there is continuity of electrical current through the element, you should get a zero reading. A reading of other than zero means there is an internal break in the element.

Next, turn the multitester dial to OHM. Touch the 2 probes together and turn the dial until it reads zero. That clears out the previous readings that could interfere with the next test. Touch one probe to a terminal on the element and the other to the element itself. You should get a reading between 20 and 100 ohms if the element is still in working order. A higher reading may indicate an open circuit with an internal break. A lower reading indicates the element may have a short. I have included the link to order the element in case you need to do that.
