Question and Answers

Q:

Why did the bake element fail during the self cleaning cycle in my oven?

A:

Since the breakers did not trip, the bake element probably just broke and it did not touch the metal oven liner or cabinet to cause a short circuit. I recommend that you shut off the breakers for the oven and replace the bake element first and then test the operation of the oven. If the bake element heats constantly as soon as the breakers are reset then you likely have a stuck relay on the EOC (Electronic Oven Control board -- also called the clock/oven control). This component would need to be replaced in this situation. If the bake element will not heat you could also have a failure in the EOC or you could have a wiring failure in the circuit. These types of problems will not be apparent until you replaced the bake element and test the operation of the oven.
