Question and Answers

Why do 2 burners on my Kenmore cook top model 911.3378814 continue to click even after the burner is lit?

The spark igniter system has a re-ignition feature that senses whether there is a flame on the burner that is being used. If the 2 burners click constantly, you could have a bent igniter or a number of other problems that is preventing the spark igniter system to properly detect the flame.

If the problem is intermittent, it can be caused by one of the following problems:

  • Drafts of air that displace the flame
  • The flame being pulled away from the burner due to the use of an extremely large pot
  • Using too large of a flame for the utensil on top of the burner
  • Gas pressure too high due to variances in pressure regulators
  • Gas having a higher than normal BTU rate
  • The LO flame being set too low
  • Spark electrode shorted to ground
If you can identify and correct one of these problems that is causing your sparking, you may be able to fix this problem yourself.

If you are not able to find the cause of the continued sparking based on the above information, I recommend that you call a service technician to diagnose and fix this problem.

I had a similar problem. One burner kept clicking. I called in a service person. He took off all the knobs, wiped them clean, used a sharp object to clean out all the gunks, wiped out the moisture, used a blow dryer to dry the inside, and the clicking is gone. He said it looked like some water or grease had gone inside. If it happens again, I can unplug the cook top and let it dry out for 2-3 days and it should be OK. The plug is under the cook top. It is easy to find if you trace the cord.
