Q:

Orbital sander model # 900277080 pad wouldn't spin.

A:

I can see the pad is not spinning on the Orbital sander and it defeats the purpose an orbital sander. I am providing a link for a parts breakdown on your model and another link with a similar question on another sander. Also if you would like to purchase another sander that link is available also. Hope this helps while waiting for an expert response.

Thank you for your question on the radon orbital sander not driving when set on surface.

It sounds like when you dropped it you may have broken the bearing retainers that hold the drive for the pad.

You will first need to remove the split the dust cowl so you can get a better view of that area

You will need to remove the three screws that secure the pad to the drive system to see if you can tell what is broken.

Parts illustration for Craftsman orbital sander .

Please tell me what you found to be broken.

Sam, Thanks for the quick response. I did take the sander apart, I saw nothing broken. The bearing retainers are all together, no broken parts. The bearing also seems find, turns easily. I did not take the bearing retainer and bearing apart or go deeper into the sander. With pad and bearing removed, the drive shaft spins at a high rpm and is not to be bent.

Thank you for the update Robert. There also is a brake ring that is around the pad and it should stop the spinning and make the unit random orbit. Is this parts okay? Sam A.

Sam, I'm not sure I know what the brake ring is? I looked for it in the diagram link you provided and couldn't determine which part it was. I seem to have all the parts listed and to my eye they seem to be in normal working order. Of course I am sure this is not the case, because it's not working like it use too.
