Q:

Why has my drill quit working all of a sudden? 90016496 Craftsman Drill

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be more than happy to help with your drill. Upon researching model 90016496:  I know it can be frustrating to experience problems with your drill. It sounds like the battery may not be getting the charge that is required to power the unit from the charger or the battery may have failed. You can have the battery and charger checked at local parts and repair center or take it to your local drop off center. I have posted a link of the store locator that will show you were the closest drop off location is based on your zip code. Since these batteries are 3 to 4 years old they are about aged out. I have found very few batteries that will go more than five years, and most of them only last 3+ years. So you may want to consider replacing the batteries

I trust this information will help you, we appreciate your business thank for choosing Sears.

I have the same model, Craftsman 20V Bolt-on cordless drill, model 900-16946, that has stopped working. I believe there is a short in the trigger switch because it worked fine off and on and now there's no trigger response. The drill is just over one year old (out of warranty) and I can't seem to connect with a technician for a chat on how to repair it.

Q:

my craftsman reciprocating saw 2-vs stopped running. How can i diagnose how to fix it?

A:

I can understand your concern over wanting to know how to diagnose why your saw has stopped running. While you are waiting for your expert answer, I did some research on the unit. At this time, I was unable to locate information that would be helpful in regards to your question. Some of these questions that are asked will need specific research and will be answered by an expert with-in two business days but usually sooner.

Thank you for your question as to why your Craftsman reciprocating saw is not coming on.

Since you have already checked the brushes and they seem to be okay then I would suggest doing some electrical checks on the switches on the inside of the handle.

Please make sure the saw is not plugged into an electrical outlet.

Remove the screws on the half cover of the handle to access the trigger switches and the power cord.

You can use the ohm setting on a volt/ohm meter to check the continuity of the power cord by putting the meter to and ohms setting and using the black and red probes on either end of the power cord to make sure the cord is not broken. Then proceed to the trigger switch. Remember to pull the trigger when checking the switch with the meter. If the trigger switch is bad then we have a problem because the switch is obsolete with no substitute switch available.

Please let me know what you discover when you open up the handle and check the wiring circuits.

I have the exact same saw. I haven't used it that much, maybe 10-12 times and it stopped working. The brushes are fine. The cord is fine. The swirtch has two inserted wires marked load and two wires marked line attached. Don't know if the switch is good or bad, but I'm verv disappointed in this saw no longer working. Since the switch is obsolite, with no substitute switch available, Sears should do the right thing and replace this saw for a new one. Apparently this saw is a lemon.
