Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

I agree, the check switch must close/connect the red and yellow wires in order to complete the voltage path to the motor when the lid is shut.

This may be the issue. If not, please reply and I will be glad to assist you further.

From the description of the problem I suspect the timer is at fault. If the washer will fill, agitate, drain and spin in certain cycles but will not in others then the timer is usually at fault. The 22001638 timer is available from the following site: Timer for Maytag Washer Model LAT8705AAE . If you have a few basic tools and feel comfortable with such projects this can be a good do-it-yourself project. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services . The image below may be helpful if you decide to do-it-yourself. Remember to unplug the washer first.

Hi William,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

The rubbing, grinding, and binding noises you are hearing is most likely being caused by bad rear tub bearings. The rear half of the tub contains the bearings. This is not an easy do-it-yourself project; it will require complete disassembly of your washer. I highly recommend having a trained service technician take a look at your washer.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website; Sears Home Services .

Here is a link that you may use to view the parts list diagram or to purchase any parts needed; Sears Parts Direct .

I hope this is helpful. If you would like to try and diagnose this issue on your own, please reply to this post and I will be happy to assist you further.

I had the same problem and had Sears replace the tub assembly for my Bosch Model N Washing Machine. I ordered a spare one and now have an extra one that I want to sell. This is a very expensive part, but will sell for $300 cash. Buyer pays shipping from Fairfax, VA.
