Thank you for using Manage My Life. There are no records in our database for that model. Can you look at the tag and give me the MF number? It should be directly under the 867 number.

Q:

Can you tell me the age of my Sears Roebuck AC unit - model 867816231 and Serial 63322?

A:

That will take some pretty good research to find out.The ManageMyLife website is a great place to find answers to questions that need qualified and insightful responses. Some of these questions that are asked will need specific research and will be answered by an expert with-in two business days but usually sooner. What a great Sear and Roebuck A C unit this is to last that long. The life expectancy is up to15 - 20 years if maintained properly. If you want Sears to give a free in-home estimate for a newer and much more efficient system, I have attached the link to Searshomeservices.com.

I saw in another post (link below) the Serial number has the year in it. So I'm guessing 1963. I agree that this speaks highly of Sears units from that time. It would be great for Sears to market this performance.

Thank you for your question. Your model was made between 1964 (earliest record I can find) and 1972. Those serial numbers would usually have a letter in front of the serial number that would indicate the decade it was made. The first number after the letter would indicate the year in that decade.

If 6 was the first number in the serial I would think that the unit was made in 1966.

Solved: A local HVAC contractor found the information for me. It is a 37,000 BTU unit manufactured between 1970 and 1974. I'm now wondering whether to replace the burned out fan motor and gamble that the condenser has a few more years left in it.

Unfortunately the BTU (size) information is not listed using this model number. To get the age of this unit, will require using the serial number. For more information, the complete serial number will be needed and also if you can locate the style number it will include the BTU rating or sometimes the branded model will also be listed.

Thanks. Note that I posted the serial number (H11928047), the year of manufacture (1970-74), and the size (37,000 BTU) a couple of days ago, so I've got my questions answered. I have found a fellow willing to rebuild the fan motor for a reasonable price and plan to try to keep my forty-year-old unit going a few years longer.
