Question and Answers

Q:

BLOWER MOTOR/CAPACITOR

A:

Furnace repair without available parts would be difficult. I see you seem comfortable doing your own repairs, so the expert will review and respond within 24-48 hours if not sooner. If it turns out you would like to start pricing replacement units, I also added the link to Sears Home Services below.

Thank you for your question. I see that you are trying to locate a replacement capacitor for your Sears furnace.

Capacitors are based on three ratings. The microfarads, voltage and the hertz. If you look on the capacitor, or any capacitor you will see a number followed by a squiggly 'u' or the letters mfd. This stands for microfarads which is how capacitors are rated.

Your furnace was designed to use a 4mfd, 370VAC, 60hz capacitor. I am going to give you the part number for a 5mfd, 370VAC, 60hz capacitor as they are easier to locate usually. It is ok to use a 5mfd instead of a 4mfd. The part number is STD377305. You can use this to order the part from Sears PartsDirect .

I hope this helps you repair your furnace. If you have any other questions, please post them here and I will do my best to assist you.

I would like to add if it is still cold where you are at, there are some HVAC supply stores that will allow you to purchase a replacement capacitor if you need it sooner rather than later.
