Question and Answers

Q:

my whirlpool washer is not agitating, model LSQ8512KQ0 SERIAL CM1122549

A:

A washing machine is one of the most important household appliances due to the fact that it is just so convenient; it saves you time from having to go to a laundry mat and while you are doing other things around the house or just step out of the house you can wash a load all at the same time. So it can be a very big disappointment when the washer no longer works properly. I have taken some time to further your search here on Manage My Life and noticed that someone else had asked a similar question with a posted response from an expert. I have attached the link below if you are interested in viewing the page while waiting on your response from an expert. Hope this helps, have a wonderful day!

From what you're describing I suspect the agitator auger is stripped out. After the washer fills & starts running if the lower section is moving back & forth but the top auger is not, the clutch dogs are stripped out. I recommend replacing the agitate clutch dogs. If the washer is not running at all in agitate I suspect the timer or wiring harness problem. Please reply with more details on what the washer will do if you need further assistance.

Agitate dogs cam kit; 285809 $13.08 www.searspartsdirect.com comes with instructions.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

SAFETY NOTICE: Be sure to disconnect power to the appliance before performing any repairs. Be aware that there could be sharp edges inside the appliance that could cause cuts or other injuries to yourself or others.

Q:

What is wrong with my Whirlpool model LSQ8512KQO washer when it will agitate okay but will not spin even though the clutch is spinning?

A:

Your description of the problem didn't mention one detail which is does the spin basket turn at all when it's suppose to be spinning.

The clutch may be worn and I usually suggest changing the clutch and basket drive at the same time but one thing to try first is to give the basket a push and see if it will turn.

If the basket starts to spin when given a push then the basket drive is weak and needs to be replaced. I would recommend replacing the clutch at the same time.

If you can't turn the spin basket at all then the spin bearing can be bad or there can be something under the spin basket that is jamming it.

I hope this information helps to resolve the problem but submit another question with any additional details for further assistance.

Q:

Why won't the top half of my agitator work correctly?

A:

The likely failure is worn agitate dogs (key#10) as shown in the image I added below. The agitate dogs allows the upper portion (auger) of the agitator to ratchet in one direction only when there is enough resistance applied to the auger.

To replace the agitate dogs:

  1. Remove the fabric dispenser assembly (key#1)
  2. Remove the cap (key#23)
  3. Use the male end of a 1/2 inch drive ratchet extension to unscrew the driven cam (key#9)
  4. Using the 1/2 ratchet extension, place it down the center of the agitator and into the square plastic head of the driven cam and turn it counterclockwise (CCW).
  5. Lift the driven cam off to replace the agitate dogs.

Part number of the agitate dogs (80040) can be ordered at Sears Parts Direct. I added the link to Sears Parts Direct with the part already looked up for ordering.
