Question and Answers

Q:

How do I rewire a Craftsman leaf shedder model 833-796856?

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the shredder. I will be happy to assist you. The white wire from the power cord should connect to the white wire from the motor. The black wire from the power cord should connect to one side of the breaker. Then you will have a short wire that goes from the other terminal on the breaker to one side of the on/off switch. The black wire from the motor should connect to the other terminal on the on/off switch. Once you have it connected like this, the unit should work. If it still trips the breaker, I suspect there is a problem in the motor.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you for using Manage my life.

In your answer, you dont specify which wire should go to which terminal of the breaker nor which wire should go to which terminal of the power switch. From your response, it seems like it doesnt matter which wire goes to which terminal. However, as I mentioned in my initial description of the problem, the unit starts running when the power switch is in the off position. I switched the wires on the power switch and it didnt seem to help. Jeff Barron

Jeff, I suspect you have the power cord wire and the wire from the motor connected to the breaker. If this is the case, the motor will run all the time. I posted an image below that shows how the wires should connect. Just make sure to connect it this way and it should work. It does not matter if you use one terminal or the other when you connect the wires.

No, it did not work (I typed a lengthier response but I don't think it went).
