Q:

Pro-Form 745 CS Treadmill Belt stops moving 831299472 Proform Proform 745cs

A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com and being a valued member. It is unfortunate to hear that you are having issues with your treadmill and I do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. I'm looking at your model number 831299472 and the most likely cause of the treadmill stopping after continued use is poor belt lubrication. Do the following test to see if the belt needs lubrication and if the belt is ok, you probably have a pinched wire in a wiring harness.

To test the walking belt lubrication, do not turn the treadmill motor on. Set the elevation to the highest level. Stand near the front of the walking belt. Push yourself firmly toward the rear of the treadmill. If the belt is properly lubricated the belt will take you to the rear edge of the treadmill and dump you off on the floor. If you move and stop, the belt needs lubricating. The part number for the belt lubrication kit is 219168. I have included a link to our Parts Direct page where you can purchase the part you need to complete your repair. Just click the blue link above to be taken to the page. I trust this information will help you.

I tried the lubricant you recommended. Did not correct the problem. Is the other suggestion, the pinched wire in the wiring harness, a DIY repair or do I need to call a repair person?

Thank you for your question.

I will be happy to assist you with replacing the front roller. First, unplug the treadmill from the outlet before starting ant service. Then follow the steps below.

  1. Remove the motor hood on the front of the treadmill.
  2. Loosen the rear roller adjustment bolts. This will give you slack in the walking belt.
  3. Remove the bolt on the right side of the front roller. Make sure you count how many turns the bolt is in.
  4. Once the front roller bolt is out slide the roller out of the hole in the frame on the left side and lift the roller out.
  5. Put the drive belt on the new roller and install in the reverse order.
  6. Once the roller is in, use the instructions in the image below to adjust the walking belt.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

I have cut/paste the directions to center the belt on the walking board. It is worth noting that a worn belt or walking platform can cause the belt to shift to one side or the other. For that, the only fix is to replace the belt or board.

To center the walking belt follow the steps below:

  1. On the right side of the front roller there is a bolt or screw that goes thru the roller bracket or bushing then thru the shaft of the front roller and out, most of the time back into the bracket.
  2. To move the belt to the left side of the treadmill turn the screw/bolt in the front roller clockwise until the belt runs parallel to the side rails.
  3. To move the belt to the right turn the bolt/screw counter clockwise until the belt runs parallel to the side rails.
