Thank you, but that the response in that link refers to a white powder. The powder mine is putting out is black. Are the lubricants different colors?

That black powder appears to residue off of the top of the walking belt. The top surface of the belt is coated with a non-slip traction substance that will sometimes shed some residue that will appear in that powder form as shown in your picture. Wipe the top surface of the belt with a dry cloth or towel and see if you see that same residue appearing on the cloth or towel. If that is the source of the black powder then then that residue appearing as shown in your picture is somewhat normal. As long as the belt still has safe traction for the walking surface, you may not need to make any adjustments or repairs. If you do need to adjust the belt, you can follow the directions in your owner's manual. Make sure that the belt tension is correct and that it is aligned correctly (page 16). Here is a link for the manual in case you need it: Owner's Manual .

If the belt needs lubrication, then you can use this kit: Proform J6si Treadmill Model 831.297793 Lubrication Kit . That kit has an applicator and instructions.

I hope that this information helps. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.

Thanks Alina. However the problem is with the belt. I actually followed these instructions and got everything disassembled. Not a problem..... However the belt that I took off is about 3- 4" longer than the one I received from the Sears Parts Dept. I called the parts person at Sears and they claim they sent me the right belt ---- but it does not look like it will fit - unless I have to rally stretch it alot. Before I do that I want to check with and expert /

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the treadmill. i looked up the part number for the walking belt and it is part number 151935. The belt you have should be the correct belt. When the belt is rolled out, there should be enough room on each end for the rollers. If you do not have enough room for the rollers after you side the belt on the walking board the belt you have might have been mismarked. If that is the case, I recommend having the belt exchanged.

Replacing the belt on your treadmill is fairly difficult and time consuming. In addition, there are no really detailed instructions for replacing it since a professional would typically do that type of service. We do not have a treadmill service manual that shows how to replace the walking belt.

The basic instructions are listed below to help you.

  1. Unplug the treadmill from the power source.
  2. Remove the motor hood on the front of the treadmill.
  3. Remove the right foot rail.
  4. Remove the rear roller adjusting bolts.
  5. Remove the front roller adjusting bolt. Make sure to count the number of turns it takes to remove the bolt. Then when you reinstall the bolt, you can get it in the same place.
  6. Remove the front roller.
  7. Remove the screws from the right side of the walking board. Then lift the walking board and slide the walking belt off the board.
  8. Reverse the instructions to reassemble the treadmill.
  9. Before installing the motor hood carefully check the operation. The drive belt might need to be adjusted.
I have added the instructions for adjusting the walking belt below. Again, this is a fairly involved repair, so if you have any concerns or reservations you may want to consult a professional.

I hope this is helpful. Please reply below if you need further assistance. Here is a link to order any parts you need. Sears Parts Direct .

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
