Q:

Sears ProForm 725 TreadMill / Error E21 831297780 Proform Treadmill

A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com. Glad to help out. Im looking at your model numberThat error is a "No Speed Signal" error. In order to correct the problem the motor hood must be removed. Depending upon you mechanical abilities you can do this yourself.

To do this follow the steps below:

Unplug the treadmill.

Remove the 4 screws that hold the motor hood on.

Lift the motor hood off and pull the power cord thru the hole where the cord passes thru the hood.

On the back of the motor there is a speed sensor and a black disk with multiple holes in it. Be sure the 3 wires (red, black, & blue) that go to the sensor are plugged into the sensor and the sensor does not have any debris dust or dirt in it.

Check the disk to verify it is securely mounted on the end shaft of the motor.

Follow the 3 wires (red, black, & blue) that come from the sensor and go to the power board.

Make sure the wires are securely connected to the board at terminal marked?.
Make sure the connector marked? is secured to the power board as well.
If this does not correct the problem feel free to submit more information or if you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website.

Hi Sherman -- Your response seems to be the exact same answer as to a question from a few years ago, and it is what I alluded to when I mentioned I traced the wiring to the speed sensor disk, etc. The disk is securely mounted on the end shaft of the motor, and when I force the treadmill belt to move -- the disk also rotates properly through the sensor. There's no detectable problem with debris, the wheel or wire connections.

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the treadmill. I looked up the model number you have submitted. This model has a speed sensor wire that can come loose. If it comes loose, the control does not get the signal and will shut off. To check the sensor wire you will need to unplug the treadmill from the wall. Then remove the hood. Once it is removed look at the left side of the front roller. You should see a black wire next to the roller. The end of the wire has a sensor that reads the roller going around. Turn the roller so the magnet is aligned with the magnet on the roller. There should be about a 1/4 inch between the magnet and the sensor. Once that is set, follow the wire back to the board, and check the connection on the board. While you are looking at the board check all the rest of the connections and look for burnt marks on the board. If it looks ok, replace the cover and check the operation. If it does the same thing you will, need a volt meter and feel comfortable making live voltage checks. If you have a meter and would like to diagnose it yourself, please let me know. I will be happy to help.

I have attached the calibration directions for you. If this does nothing for you or you cannot get it to go into calibration mode, double check your model number for me. There are a lot of ProForm 725 models. Some have letters after them, some have other numbers, and some are just 725. There will be a model number that begins with "831" somewhere on the machine. That number would be very helpful. Overall, the calibration may be the same on all the 725 series units though, so I would give it a try either way.

Let me know the outcome and we can proceed if necessary with other options.

Thank you for using Manage My Life!
