lifestyler expanse treadmill 550 repair

A:

Needing guidance on replacing parts is very important that's why having an owner's manual is always important to have at all times. While you were waiting on an expert to answer your question, I researched your model number in the Manage My Life website and found your manual. I attached the link below. Hope this helps!

If you will look at the parts diagram in the manual or go to www.partsdirect.com?sid=MMLxexpertxmerch and enter the model number, you can see the parts you need to remove to replace the rear roller.

You should start by disconnecting the power to the treadmill.

Remove the left and right side rails (items #14 and 98). Remove the right front roller cover (item 33) and loosen the front roller adjustment bolt (item 39).

Remove the 2 rear roller adjustment bolts (items 85 and 87). Make note of how the spring and washers go on the right hand rear roller adjusting bolt so you can put them back in the same order.

The rear roller will lift up and slide out of the belt.

Q:

I have a Sears Lifestyler expanse 550 model 831297151 treadmill that wont slow down. I replaced the speed potentiometer and that didn't work. What else might make the motor run at full speed?

A:

The motor controller or the motor can cause the motor to run at full speed as soon as you put the key in.

Check the motor for a short to ground. Disconnect the treadmill from power. Disconnect the motor leads (black and red) from the motor controller.

If you get a resistance reading from either motor lead to ground, the motor is the problem. If the motor checks ok, the motor controller is bad.
