Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com and being a valued member. It is unfortunate to hear that you are having issues with your treadmill and I do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. I'm looking at your model number and the symptoms you are describing indicate a failing control board in the console or the controller. Sometimes unplugging and reconnecting it will reset and will work at times. It can also be the harness for the console. Make sure the harness is completely secured and damaged. I have included a link to our PartsDirect page where you can purchase the part you need to complete your repair. Just click the blue link above to be taken to the page. I trust this information will help you. Here is a link that will help with troubleshooting.

Thank you for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com.

When the exercise equipment stops working, the exercise routine is affected also. The alternative outside in the heat and humidity is not attractive. The console gets power from the motor controller mounted under the hood near the motor. Check the connection of the 8 wire harness that goes from the motor controller up to the console. It sounds like you might have a loose or weak connection.

The console receives 8-12 volts dc on the red and black wires.

If the connections and wires appear ok, the problem is probably inside the console. You can open the console and check the wires inside. The worst case scenario would be a bad console.

If you should need a console, you can order one at Parts Direct To search for parts enter model 831.296040.

Q:

Is the console bad on my treadmill if the light flickers rapidly and I am unable to program it at times?

A:

A wire harness connection between the motor controller and the console could cause the flickering and the programming problems. The first image below shows the wiring diagram for your treadmill. I recommend that you check the wire harness connection between the console and the motor controller. The second and third images show additional troubleshooting and technical information on this treadmill. A failed motor controller could also cause your problem. If you are able to use this technical information, you may be able to verify a console failure or determine a different cause for your problem.

If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details.
