When it comes to our exercise machine not working it can be really disappointing. While you are waiting on an expert to answer your question, a suggestion I have is to visit Sears Home Services website to set service with a Sears technician. I have attached the link below. Hope this helps!

I have attached the wiring schematic for your machine. If the wiring checks out the problem will be with the console. I show that the console is no longer in productions so you may have to search around on the internet to try and locate a replacement console if that does turn out to be the case.

Thanks Wade, that's exactly what I needed ! I was able to test the reed switch at the top of the harness and all looked ok. After re-connecting everything the speed and time started working again. Must have been a loose wire or bad contact somewhere along the way. I'll know exactly where to look should the problem recur. Thanks again for the information and quick response.

Mark, I am sorry you are having a problem with the resistance on the Proform 970. If you have replaced the motor and it still does not work, I recommend checking the wiring from the console to the motor. Make sure all the connections are tight. If you have a meter you can check the resistance of each wire from one end to the other. If you have continuity on all the wires, I recommend replacing the batteries. If this does not cure the problem the only part left would be the console. Thank you for using Manage my life. Mark

Your question is worded so it seems like you want to increase the resistance more than what it set on the console from the factory. Is this correct? If that is indeed your question, no the resistance cannot be changed outside of the parameters that come pre-set at the factory.

If you cannot adjust the resistance at all and you need to know how to get that problem solved it can be the console batteries, the resistance motor, or the harness to the motor from the console.

Let me know what we're dealing with and I can advise you further if necessary.
