Q:

Door ajar beeper no longer beeps! 79577553600 Kenmore Elite Refrigerator

A:

Thanks for contacting manage my life about your refrigerator model 795.77553600; sorry you are having a problem, I will be glad to assist you. All the beeps and chimes are from the board on the dispenser, the circuit runs from the door switches to main board to dispenser board. My question would be, are there any chimes, or ding sounds when operating the control? I have attached a wiring diagram below for your convenience, I do advise extreme caution .as controls are very delicate and can be damaged if not tested properly by an experienced technician. _Always disconnect power supply before servicing the appliance and when testing live voltage be sure to wear proper safety equipment (gloves and eye protection) also be aware of sharp metals on product_ If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services. Ron H.

Hi Ron There are no sounds at all, ever. I am an electrical design engineer and former technician (39+ years) so I should be able to do the repair. Can you advise the best way to get at the board? I am hoping it may be a cold solder joint on the piezo buzzer or something similar. I could not locate the wiring diagram you attached. Could you try attaching again? Thanks, Dave

Hi Ron, I was able to remove the PCB no problem. It looks like there may be a blown transistor (Q102) which appears to be part of a driver circuit to the buzzer. Can you get me a schematic and parts list for this PCB? The numbers I got off the PCB are: 6871JB1439A 6870JB8261C Ver 7.6 2006.03.13 ILSAN-IND Co LTD SJC

Hi Ron, I checked the suspect transistor with a multimeter and found the the base-emitter junction was open. I managed to find out the transistor from internet search (from Korea Semiconductor) . I was able to cross reference it with a part from Diodes Inc and available from Digkey. I bought the transistor for 25 cents. The buzzer is fixed! Much better than $130 for a new display board!

There is a tub seal above the transmission that is likely leaking and needing to be replaced. This is not a procedure I recommend attempting for the do it yourself. If water has been leaking past the seal long enough it can cause the spin bearing to fail and cause the washer to make a lot of noise while spinning. If it's making noise then it will likely need the triple lip seal and bearing kit. I recommend highly calling a service technician to repair your washer or think about replacing the washer rather than having it repaired.

You can find a parts image at Sears Parts Direct .

The tub is key #13. The part number depends on the series number. The series number is the first 2 digits of the serial number. For series 14 and above use part #W10116790 for $89.75 and for series 10 it uses part#W10116791 at $82.61 The service will cost approximately $130.00 plus parts.
