Q:

I have a Kenmore gas range model number 36275181692 and the oven will not light.

A:

If the igniter comes on but never lights the burner I suspect a weak igniter. If the igniter does not come on at all we will need to check the resistance of the igniter or the voltage to the igniter. You may also inspect the igniter for a crack. If you have a volt/ohm meter & feel comfortable performing these check please get back to us. It is only recommended that you make these checks if you feel comfortable. Any appliance should be unplugged prior to servicing.

Igniter part number; WB13K0021.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services You can also call us at 1-800-803-6775 to make arrangements for a technician to come to your home.

Thanks for the prompt follow up. I looked at your link and agree that I have a defrost problem. Unfortunately I don't have a manual thermostat I can turn off. I also haven't been able to find a way to manually do a defrost cycle. The model I have has an auto defrost function. If you know a way to activate it I would be happy to try that. In the mean time I just got in there and chipped away the ice to slow the build up. I have also felt around the seals and can't find any spot that seems to be leaking.

Thank you for your question. I'm sorry you are having this defrost problem with your refrigerator. Placing this model into a defrost cycle manually, can be a little tricky. You will need to get to the main control board behind the unit. When you can see the board, look for a very small button in the center of the board. Very carefully (live voltage present), press this button once and all the leds should light up. Press the button again and 2 should show in the display. Press it a third time and it should bring the heating element on and a 3 in the display. If the element does work, it indicates the board is not advancing and will need to be replaced. If the element does not work, some voltage checks and possibly resistance checks will need to be made. This can be some difficult checks to make and I recommend having a technician make these checks. I'm listing a site you can access, to have a tech come out. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services . I hope this will help you.

I've found the button on the board and have pushed it 3 times. 33 33 is now displayed. How do I know if the heating element turns on? Is the 33 33 supposed to stay on for a while or is something else supposed to happen? Thanks for getting me this far and I hope to hear from you again.

Michael, when in step 3, the unit should stop running. Yes, the 3's will stay in the display. After a few minutes, if the heating element works, you should be able to hear a sizzling or popping sound. Now, the freezer temperature must be below 20 degrees when this test is made. After a few minutes if you cannot hear any sizzling or popping sound inside the freezer, some voltage and resistance checks will need to be made. I would recommend having a technician make these checks. If you would like more assistance, let me know and I will assist you further.

Thanks for you replly. If a Kenmore product is over 10 years old the manuals, even though you can find the number listed, the links usually will not open. With my previous experience it requires someone/expert to go elsewhere, into the achives and usually send a PDF copy of the manual or a direct web link.
