Thank you for the quick response. It is neither difficult nor frustrating to maintain kitchen appliances. It is an enjoyable weekend hobby to keep all my appliances running. I spent many years being paid to fix electro-mechanical equipment and am quite knowledgeable. Unless the machine ate the drain check valve, it ain't there.

Thanks for contacting ManageMyLife.com. I understand your concern about the check valve on the dishwasher. We are here to help. The replacement drain hose does contain the check valve. The Sears Parts direct website will not mention the check valve, the parts list will call it a drain hose. However, the parts list I can view (which is internal only) show the part description as, drain loop with check valve. The part number for the drain loop with check valve is W10137608. There is also a check valve inside the pump. That is shown on the image below. I hope this helps.

Thank you for the image of the sump and, I think, the drain pump. The image is too small to see on the screen. When I enlarge it, it loses resolution. Can you please email me a full-screen image, or better, an 8.5x11 pdf? I pulled the drain pump and inspected it. There is no check valve in it. Removing the drain pump reveals that drain pump cavity below the sump. I can push my finger through the cavity and into the sump. There is nothing in the way. As I said above, there is no check valve in the drain loop. The only thing stopping water from back-flowing into the sump is the drain pump impeller. I believe that Kenmore/Sears omitted the check valve from bill of materials accompanying the new dishwasher. Do you think this is possible?

We have been having problems with the images. The parts list for this dishwasher does show the check valve on the pump page. The link below show it. Also. when the drain hose is installed, the manual show the hose looped before it goes to the air gap or garbage disposer. Water would have to be under pressure, to back up a full 360 degree loop. The image should be large now.
