Kenmore Elite Washer error code U2 796.42198900 796.42198900

Q:

'OE' error not resolved by cleaning out drain filter. 79642198900 Kenmore Elite Washer

A:

Thank you for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com. I am sorry to hear of the draining issues you are experiencing with the Kenmore Elite washer, I know how frustrating it would be to manually have to drain the unit before spinning. I also appreciate all the details provided.

Since you have cleaned and reverified the drain pump filter, which would be the first thing to do, I suspect we are having either an issue with the drain pump itself or an electrical connection.

The OE error code indicates a drain error. This error will display if the washer is draining too slow or if it's not fully drained in within 10 minutes. With your mention of the 'clicking' sound, I anticipate the pump itself will need to be replaced, however, to be certain of that before purchasing a new one, we have a few checks we can run.

I have included some images below that you can click on to open them up. If you are viewing this response on SearsPartsDirect.com, you will want to copy and paste the URL into your internet browser to be able to see them, for some reason they don't show up on the website.

The first one shows how to test the drain pump with a multimeter, you should be looking for a reading of 10-20 ohms. The second one shows the entire pump motor wiring schematic with the desired results, and the last one shows how to access the pump. I also recommend checking the wire harness connection for the drain motor to the main control board. Make sure its secure and there aren't any burnt connections.

If you have any further questions or inquiries, please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you for using SearsPartsDirect.com.

Just got around to pulling the drain motor. I am looking in the expert response for the links on how to check the motor, but I don't see any. Can you repost them?

Also, the drawings showing how to access motor would be beneficial. I unscrewed and unscrewed the pump/drain assembly and thought the screws would never come undone. Finally put a little tension on them and they came out.

Hello David, thank you for the response and for using SearsPartsDirect.com. I was able to pull up another disassembly instruction sheet that will give you more details on testing the pump motor. It shows the test points as well as the ohm results desired.

Just click the blue link below to be directed to the page to see the various attachments I have uploaded for this repair. I also saw another post in regards to accessing the pump motor. Within that post, the customer gives a link to a YouTube video they thought was especially helpful. It might be worth looking at.

hello, I realize the post is almost two years old but I'm having the same issue. I removed the drain pump and tested it with a multimeter (11 ohms). There's no clogs in any of the hoses. What else could it be? Also, all of these attachments are really small when you try to open them. So small that they're not legible. Thanks!
