Thank you for your inquiry on your Kenmore Refrigerator, Model: 795.79753904. From reviewing the details on your model, If the fill tube has ice in it, I suspect the inlet water valve that supplies water to the ice make i9s weeping. That means that water is seeping through it all the time and the small amount of water freezes inside the tube and builds up eventually blocking it. You can test this by getting to the back of the refrigerator, remove the supply tube at the fill tube and observe if water seeps out (very slowly). Another way to test would be to turn the water supply off after cleaning and give it a few days then check to see if the fill tube is blocked. If it is then there is a frosting issue, look for air leaks. If it doesn’t clog, then the most likely problem in the inlet valve.

Safety Warning: Before beginning the repair, disconnect the direct power supply to the refrigerator to prevent the risk of injury or any electrical shock.

I own this refrigerator as well and I took my ice maker out to fix an issue with the ice maker container freezing. This came from water spraying out from the water supply. I then hooked the ice maker back up and now the water supply does not operate so no ice is being generated. The on light and ice size light is operating. Any ideas on what I can try next?

I know that it can be very frustrating to have issues with your ice maker. The ice maker may not be harvesting the ice for a couple of reasons.

  • If the thermostat in the ice maker is not sensing the temperature properly. This thermostat senses the ice maker mold temperature and will start a cycle when the mold reaches a certain temperature.
  • The temperature in the freezer may not be cold enough (below 10 degrees). If the temperature never gets below 10 degrees it's a good chance that at times the temperature is getting even higher. If this is the case the average temperature might be closer to 15 degrees. In this case the ice maker mold will probably not get cold enough for the thermostat to start a cycle.

I would suggest checking the freezer temperature. If it's not getting cold enough turn it up. A good check would be to place a thermometer between two frozen packages of meat and read the temperature that way. If the temperature is correct, then I would suggest testing the ice maker. Thank you for your reply. I tested the icemaker by holding the cube size button for 3 seconds as advised elsewhere. The icemaker dropped ice and refilled properly. Note: this icemaker is in the door. The freezer compartment, located in a bottom drawer, has seemed warmer than usual lately. I change the setting from 0 to -6 and it seemed even warmer. I moved it back to 0 and it cooled some but still not cold; no ice.

It does sound like there may be an issue with the freezer temperature. I would suggest you try decreasing the temperature again, please remember that it takes a full 24 hours for the unit to cool completely. If this does not work, check for a frost buildup on the back of the unit. If there a lot of buildup, the freezer can not cool. If this is the case try manually defrost the refrigerator and then see if it works.

I left the -6 setting for more than 24 hours. When I first noticed a problem I pulled the refrigerator out and opened the back cover to clear dust etc. but the compartment was clean and free of icing.

Terry, is the ice in the tray frozen? If so there is a test that you do on the ice maker to see if this is the problem. The image below will show you how to do this. If the ice drops and then cycles, the ice maker needs to be replaced. If the ice is not frozen the you are looking at a problem with the freezer. This could be happening becuase of the temperture sensor, the contorl board, or the sealed system. Yes, the ice is frozen and does drop when a cycle is forced. Another link on this website said this indicated that the icemaker did not need replaced; but that the problem was elsewhere in the appliance.

I did some further research on this model, and found that you could be having a problem with either the control or the sensor. Try to reset the ice maker by turning it off for a few minutes and then turning it back on. If that does not help, try to reset the main control board in the refrigerator by unplugging the entire refrigerator for 5 minutes. Plug it back in and see if the ice maker starts working properly. If resetting the control boards in this manner does not help, then you can try to run the ice maker through a test function using the information shown in the image below. If the ice maker will not cycle properly, then it will need to be replaced. Please let me know if you need anything else. Thank you fo using Manage My Life.

AnneJ, I have a Kenmore Elite bottom freezer refrigerator Model #795.7107. It stopped dropping the ice cubes. When I shut the ice maker off and then turn it back on it tries to rotate the Ice tray but it makes a loud clicking noise then stops. IF I put my fingers in above the guard I can feel the frozen cubes. I felt around and it does not feel like anything is stuck but that is what it acts like. In this thread you included a couple of attachments but they are only the size of a postage stamp when I try to open them. One was for testing the ice maker the other is to reset the control boards. Can you please send them to me or tell me how to open them correctly. I would like to try it before calling for a repair. Thank you
