Q:

what causes a wide temperature variance in freezer compartment? 79579303900 Kenmore Refrigerator

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be happy to help with your refrigerator. Upon researching model 79579303900; There would be frost build up in the freezer if the defrost cycle is not functioning. It sounds like the thermostat or board is not functioning properly. You could test the temperature sensor. Check for voltage to be above .5 and under 4.5.Check connection 7 pin 5 and 6. Then check connection 8 pin 1 and 2. A measurement of 0 volts indicates a short in the sensor circuit. A measurement of 5 volts indicates an open in the sensor circuit. Also check resistance. It should be between 24.1k ohms at 2.4 volts and 77k ohms at 3.73 volts.

Thank you for choosing Sears. We appreciate your business. Have a great day.

Q:

Water and ice taste bad despite replacing filter 79579303900 Kenmore Refrigerator

A:

I know that it can be very difficult to have issues with your refrigerator. I suspect the bad taste of the water and ice in your refrigerator is caused by the tubing from the water valve to the filter and from the water filter. Sometimes the water attacks the plastic tubing and causes some bad taste and odor. To repair the problem, I would replace the tubing. You can look in the compressor compartment and decide if you want to tackle the job of replacing the tubing. Also, air is circulated throughout the refrigerator and it blows directly on the ice cubes. The air will pick up any odors inside the refrigerator and blow it directly on the cubes, which in turn absorb the odor. To correct this, the inside of the refrigerator needs to be cleaned. The best way to clean the inside of a refrigerator is, with a mild detergent and warm water.
