Question and Answers

Q:

How to remove the Display Cover on a Kenmore Elite Trio 795.78749800.

A:

Thank you for your question. Accessing the dispenser can be a little tricky. This model shows to have the hidden dispenser, which can be a bit more complicated. I'm attaching some pictures with instructions to access, this dispenser. Be sure to disconnect the power first. I hope this will help you.

Perfect, now I just have to figure out why the reverse solenoid buzzes, but won't spin and open the flap. The multimeter read the correct resistance.

Tsaalfeld, if the solenoid buzzes, it indicates that it is being energized but is apparently stuck. In this case, the solenoid # 6421JB2002L will need to be replaced. I hope this will help you.

I actually bought a brand new one and have the exact same issue. The magnet pulls the rod when energized, but no spinning or pushing to open the flap. Could it not be getting not enough juice?

Tsaalfeld, if the solenoid is pulling the rod in, the voltage will be ok. What you can try is to manually push the chute door all the way open and then activate the dispenser. If the auger motor now works, it mean the chute door is not making contact with the switch that sends power to the board indicating the door is open and to activate the motor. It would then need to be determined, why the flapper door is not opening and making contact with the switch. This is a complicated mechanism and very limited information about it. I would recommend having a technician check this. You can call 1-800-469-4663 to schedule a tech to come out.

Q:

Ice maker makes ice, flap won't open to dispense ice on Kenmore Elite 79578749800.

A:

Thanks for contacting manage my life about your refrigerator model 79578749800; sorry you are having a problem, I will be glad to assist you. I am confused about your explanation of the solenoid shaft spinning; normally the shaft would just go up and down not spin.  I would suggest that you inspect the duct motor that opens the flapper door.Inspect all the harness connection for pins out of place that could be causing a voltage loss to motor. If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home ServicesRon H.

Thanks for the question about your flap door on the shoot not opening; I will be glad to assist you with this.
The most common reason the flapper will not open is due to freezing or icing over. This happens when ice shavings accumulate and hang door open slightly, warm air causes melting, then when the door shuts ice forms and the door is stuck.
You would need to use a small cloth with very warm water on it to clean and deice. If this does not solve the problem, there could be a board failure, door motor failure, sensor failure, or switch failure. I would strongly recommend having a trained service technician out to diagnose if the door is not frozen. Testing will require special tools and equipment.
I hope this helps, should you need additional assistance reply with added details and I will be happy to respond.

Thanks Ron H.

It is not frozen. My question is should the flap open when I hit push the ice trigger in? I had read previously, it was as simple as replacing the solenoid - that is not one of the things you mentioned. The ice maker spin and pushes out ice, the door just isn't opening. The water works fine, I assumed it was the Rev Solenoid (405A) from http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/KENMORE-ELITE-Parts/Refrigerator-Parts/Model-79578749800/0583/0161000/K0810166/00006?blt=06&prst=&shdMod=
