Question and Answers

Q:

Model #79578554800 does'nt get cold 79578554800 Kenmore Elite Refrigerator

A:

Thank you for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com.

Sorry to hear about the warming refrigerator section on the unit, I know how frustrating that is.

I looked through the Service Manual on the unit, but I do not see an error of 'SS', do you think that could be 55 referring to the temp? Irregardless, something is wrong for it to be at 55 degrees. I suspect you are having an issue with the temp sensor, the electronic control, or the evaporator fan motor or damper assembly.

Those components are what allows the cool air to be cycled into the refrigerator from the freezer. If any of the parts I mentioned have gone out, it can cause your temp to rise within the refrigerator.

I have attached a few documents you can click on to further examine/diagnose the issue. If you don't see the attachments, click here to view this response on ManageMyLife.com with attachments. The first document covers the error codes you may see on the unit, and the second document covers some diagnostic testing you can perform to isolate the issue.

If you would feel more confident have a Sears Home Service technician help assist with the diagnosis/repair, click here to be directed to the page to set up service.

If you have any further questions or inquires, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com.

Q:

Refrigerator temperature display

A:

I know how important it is to have as much useful information about your appliance as possible so that it is easier to find replacement parts and part numbers. While you are waiting for an expert answer, I did manage to find a link in where you can enter your model number and the owners manual from the Manage My Life website. Hope this helps!

Pvalde2 posted a link for your owner's manual in the above response. Here is another link for that manual that may be easier to open and navigate: Owner's Manual . Page 20 of that manual shows how to switch from Celsius to Fahrenheit on that display. I provided that note in the image below. Press and hold the Freezer key and the Refrigerator key for 5 deliberate seconds or more.

If you need more help, let us know.

A:

chbel23; I assume the SS is actually the number 55. If the freezer temperature is not running at 0 and the fresh food sides are running at 55 degrees, did someone change the temperature setting for the fresh food? Try lowering the fresh food temperature from 55 to 37 degrees and wait a few hours to see if the fresh food section will get any colder. If the freezer and fresh food sections are not cooling, I strongly suggest calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your refrigerator. The fresh food sections get it cold air from the freezer. If the freezer fan is not running or if the air flow damper is not opening, the fresh food section will not cool. I strongly suggest calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your refrigerator.
