Q:

Cannot decrease temperature on keypad Kenmore Elite Refrigeratormodel #79578552800

Q:

Water dispenser no longer works 79578552800 Kenmore Elite Refrigerator

A:

Hello glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com

I am sorry and do understand your frustration when there is problems with the water in the refrigerator.

Glad to help out.   Im  looking at your Kenmore Refrigerator model number 79578552800.

Thank you for your question. I know it can be disappointing when the water dispenser stops working. Yes, this could be a defective valve. If you can hear a humming sound from the back of the fridge when the dispenser lever is pressed, it would indicate the water valve has failed. If there is no sound at all, another check will be to press the dispenser lever in very slow and listen for a clicking sound. If you cannot hear this sound, it indicates that either the switch inside the dispenser has failed or the actuator is not making contact with it. This can be checked by removing the front cover (see image). Be sure to disconnect the power first. I hope this will help you.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter and I hope we can help you with your future questions and repairs.  Thank you for choosing Sears and using our SearsPartsDirect.com.

Q:

replace seal kenore refrigerator

A:

Replacing gaskets can be challenging. The correct instructions often depend on the model number of the refrigerator, so if you can add that to this thread it will help the expert provide a better answer. In the meantime, I found and attached some good instructions that may get you started. If you need to order a seal, just click on the link below to Sears Parts Direct and enter the model. Hope these links help with this project.

Barbara H. provided a link for a previous answer that describes how to replace the seal on one type of Kenmore refrigerator. There are many different types of Kenmore refrigerators. Some of the seals will just press into a channel after pulling off the old door seal. Some of the french door refrigerators will use the procedure shown below. If you have a different type of Kenmore refrigerator, reply with the full model number and we will assist you further.

The model number is often on the top of the inside right wall of the refrigerator compartment.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Hello Doug. I posted a parts diagram of the refrigerator door in the image below. Replacing the gasket on that door will be a challenging. You will need to remove the screws that secure the inner door liner Key 103 to the outer door panel Key 910 to remove the existing gasket. There will also be retainers (Key 24) on the gasket. You can use a heat gun or hair dryer on a low heat setting to smooth out any wrinkles in the new gasket. Attach the retainers and position the new gasket in place. Insert a few screws to hold the new gasket and the inner door liner in place. Do not tighten the screws all of the way at this time. Insert all of the screws loosely in the door. Adjust or "rack" the door so that it is "square" and then tighten the screws. Make sure that the door seals properly. This can be a difficult task since you may not be used to completing this type of procedure. You may need to have a service technician replace that gasket. If you need more help, let us know.
