Q:

Refrigerator sizes?

A:

Refrigerator capacity is important information to have. If you are looking at fridges to buy you can check the second link below to find a similar model, then click to see the dimensions. I also attached a link from another web site that has how to find the model number of a fridge. You can check these if you like while you wait for the expert.

I would for a nonprofit agency. We replace non energy efficient refrigerators with energy star refrigerators. We only have certain sizes we can replace with. I am being told by the assessment company that the size of the refrigerator is indicated in the model number...i.e. 363.8791582 indicates a 15 cu. ft refrigerator. A special order was made and when the refrigerator was delivered it was significantly smaller than the existing refrigerator. I need to know if this information is correct. Otherwise I need to know how to find out the size of a refrigerator by the model and or serial number. I am not sure if this is possible. But there has to be an easier way to find this out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:

The 4th number in that model number (after the 363 prefix) show the size of that Kenmore refrigerator. That model has a 21 cu. ft. capacity.

On Kenmore refrigerators, the 3rd or 4th digit of the model number after the 3 digit prefix will normally indicate the size of the refrigerator. After 2000 it is usually the 3rd digit that indicates the size. There is only one digit so a digit "5" could indicate a 15 cu. ft. refrigerator if it is a small top-freezer model or a 25 cu. ft. for a side-by-side or large top mount model.

I hope that this information helps. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.

We can normally determine the size any refrigerator as long as you provide us with the full model number. We are always glad to help.

Q:

Water in freezer 79578549800 Kenmore Elite Refrigerator

A:

Thank You for contacting ManageMyLife.com

I understand your concern about water leaking in the freezer. Water will leak into the freezer when the drain system freezes up. Every time the unit goes into a defrost cycle, water will run down into the freezer, instead of down the drain. To clear the drain, remove everything in the freezer, so the back panel can be removed. First disconnect power to the unit. With the panel removed, you will see the evaporator coil and directly under the coil is the drain trough (pan). The trough will probably be full of ice that will need to be removed. A hair dryer works well for this. Just be careful not to get it too hot. With the ice out of the trough, you will be able to see the drain hole, which will be plugged with ice. Use hot water to clear the drain hole. Keep working the hot water into the hole and wiping the excess water. This can take quite awhile, depending on how deep the ice is. This will need to be done until you get a good water flow down to the bottom drain pan.

If this doesn't fix the issue then there may be a problem with the water line to the ice maker or the water valve may have froze open.

If you have further questions please let me know.

Q:

Freezer light socket 79578549800 Kenmore Elite Refrigerator

A:

I know that it can be very frustrating to have issues with your freezer light. On this model the door switch is a dual purpose switch, power from con 2 is sent to the switch and it the switch is closed the light will be turned on. The other part of the switch is read from the board as a feedback circuit and if A to B is open the door is open the board knows door is open and the alarm will go off if in that condition too long, door open alarm sounds. So it seems the light contacts on the door switch are not working internally. Here is the link for the switch if that turns out to be the problem, Sears Parts Direct . If this is not the issue then the socket will need to be replaced. If you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself, please click on the link to schedule service: Sears Home Services. Click on "Get Started" and follow the directions, click on the red "NEXT" button to continue. I hope this helps. Please feel free to let me know if you need further assistance. We are always here to help. Thank you for using ManageMyLife.com.
