Q:

Sheet of ice in bottom of freezer 79578413800 Kenmore Refrigerator

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be more than happy to help with your refrigerator. Upon researching model 79578413800; you need to remove the pans, drawer, and all the food from the freezer to access the rear panel of the freezer. Disconnect the power to the refrigerator while you are defrosting and removing the ice. Use a hair dryer to melt the ice and don't use a sharp object on any ice on the evaporator coil. The evaporator coil is made of aluminum and can be punctured easily. Clear all the ice from the small drain pan attached to the bottom of the evaporator coil and pour very hot water through the drain after it is open. The hot water will remove any obstruction inside the drain hose. This problem is usually caused by an obstruction inside the drain hose.

I trust this information will help you, we appreciate your business thank for choosing Sears.

A:

Cold is good but freezing in both the fridge and freezer is not good for the stored foods. While you wait for the expert to review and respond, I attached two links that may help. One is the manual and the second is to Sears Home Services if a technician is needed. I attached both links above. I hope this helps.

Thank you for your question. I understand your concern about the freezing temperatures. This could be a problem with the control board or thermistors. First, disconnect the power for 30 seconds and then reconnect it. This will reset the board and may correct this problem. If the problem still occurs, adjust both compartments to a slightly warmer setting. If this doesn't help, a technician will be needed to check it, to determine if the thermistors or board has failed. I'm listing a site you can access, to have a tech come out. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services . I hope this will help you.
