Hi,

Thank you for your question, and I would like to answer the question this way. When there is good air circulation, the temperature sensor in the refrigerator is faulty giving the control board faulty reading.
The reading in ohms should be 5000 to 6000 ohms at the main control board, on con5 when ohming the two white wire to each other. When the refrigerator temperature is ser to 47 degrees, this is the reading for the correct temperature.

Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts

The main control is located on the back wall of the refrigerator and the refrigerator needs to be unplugged from the wall outlet. Use a multimeter to take the resistance reading. If it is out of the range, order this part, Kenmore Refrigerator Model 795.78409.800 thermistor .

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance please include more details in a reply to this entry below.
Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Replacing the water filter should not cause the icemaker to stop working. If the water dispenser still works the icemaker should work.

Look in the ice mold of the icemaker and see if there is ice in it. If the mold is empty, fill it with water and see if it dumps.

If the water dispenser and ice maker neither one work, you might have a stopped up new filter. Remove the filter and see if water runs from the dispenser.

I suggest you go to www.searshomeservices.com and get a Sears technician to diagnose and repair the problem.

Thank you for your question.

I see that joseph P. has given you a link to an answered question. I would like to add the following information. The Er IF error code indicates that main control board detects that the ice compartment cooling fan is not working. This will cause a lack of cooling in the ice compartment and will normally result in no ice production. This is something that a service technician will usually need to correct. If you are advanced in technical skills, you may be able to correct this problem yourself. It will require the removal of the inside back panel of the freezer compartment. This is not an easy task. I recommend that you review the procedure for this task that is shown in the image below. Make sure that you are able to safely perform the tasks described before proceeding with this repair. Unplug the refrigerator to disconnect electrical power before accessing internal components. Once you access the ice fan, you may find excessive frost in this area and on the evaporator that could be causing your cooling problem and fan problem. If you defrost this area, you may find that you do not need to replace parts. If you find no excessive frost or the Er IF error code resumes after removing any frost then you will likely need to replace the ice fan (part 5209JA1044A). You can order this part from the Sears PartsDirect website.

You indicated that you checked the fan. If this is not the fan that you checked then you will need to check the ice compartment fan.

The ice maker may begin producing ice after resolving the problem with the ice compartment fan. This will not likely resolve a problem with the ice and water dispenser. A control board in the dispenser controls the components in this area. I provided the procedures for accessing the dispenser control board in the second image below. If you unplug the refrigerator, you can use these procedures to access and check the wiring on the dispenser components. If you are advanced in technical skills, you can use the wiring diagram shown in the first image to check the circuits.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services . I hope this information is helpful.

If you need further assistance, please reply with more details below.
