I understand your concern with water leaks and I agree replacing the line may be the best solution. The line at the back of the fridge feeds through into the filter housing. If you do not feel the line going into the door and filter housing is a problem, it would be simpler to replace the line at the back. I have attached images below showing how the line runs and attaches at the back fittings.

Shut off the water supply.

If you decide to run the line through and into the housing, start by loosing the 2 screws where the tube goes into the rear cabinet and feed the tubing into the channel until the tubing gets to the spring under the left hinge cover. The replacement tube must be long enough to fit from the water tank on the left door, to the rear wall connector.

Push the tube into the door until it is short enough to feed the other end into the cabinet tube channel. Then feed until the tube can be connected to the rear wall connector. When the rear wall connector is connected, then cut the tube to size and connect to the water tank in the door.

As to the water lines degrading, there does not appear to be any information that this is a common problem. If you wish to order replacement lines, you can do so here; Sears Parts Direct .

You can check other home supply houses for alternative plastic, but they are mostly the same. If you have further questions or need additional help, please reply back. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

I have the exact same problem and unfortunately the above answers are insufficient for me. How exactly do you connect the replacement tubing at the point it connects to the back of the water filter housing? As stated in the original question "The two tubes are wrapped together and enter through a small hole in the back panel of the fridge. How do I access the tube end for disconnecting/reconnecting?" Do I need to remove the filter housing inside the refrigerator in order to attach the new replacement tube? Sorry but when you click on the pictures you provided above they do not get any bigger and do not provide any help in solving the problem. Thank you in advance for help.

Q:

Ice maker not making ice 79578402800 Kenmore Refrigerator

A:

Thank you for choosing Searspartsdirect.com and being a valued member. I can certainly assist you.

I recommend purging the system first by pressing the switch and holding it for 5-10 seconds until water comes out. There can be air stuck in the water line.

1. Check the temperature of the freezer becasue if it is fewer than 17 degrees F it wont make ice.
2.Check if your water fill spout is plugged with ice, if it is then it wont make ice.
3. Check to see if water is getting to the water inlet valve.
4.Use an OHM meter to check the continuity of the water inlet valve. If it does not have any continuity then you need to replace your water valve. If it does then the icemaker itself is the problem and may need to be replaced.
