A:

Thank you for choosing Sears parts direct. I will be happy to help with your refrigerator. Upon researching model number 79577543600; there may be an issue with the light socket. You can test for power going to the socket then to the bulb. The socket may need to be replaced.

Thank you for choosing Sears. We appreciate your business and have a good day.

i don't think it is the socket. I can get them to flick slightly when I rapidly depress the door switches.. So would it be the door switches or the control board?

I have replaced both switches and still no luck. Again I can sometimes trick the light to come on by rapidly hitting the switches and the bulb will come on for a few seconds. What else can it be? Someone said the control board may be bad?

Q:

Fridge light going on and off randomly

A:

I know that it can be very frustrating to have issues with your refrigerator. Based on the information listed, it would appear one of the light switches has failed. This could also be a problem with the control board but it does not appear to be as likely. These switches are inexpensive and I recommend replacing both switches. The switches will pry out. Be sure to disconnect the power first. If you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself, please click on this link to schedule service: Sears Home Services. Thanks, the parts came in and I am having issues prying the switches out. Is that normal or is there a trick to it. I don't want to mess anything up.

To remove the switch, wedge a small flat-head screwdriver between the freezer shell and the cover plate for the switch. Pry the cover plate off to remove the switch from the freezer. If you do not have a small enough screwdriver, you can use a clean putty knife. Pull the slide-on connectors off the back of the switch. Make note of the orientation of each wire. If you are having trouble pulling the wire off, use small needle nose pliers on the connector end that is going to be replaced. Then pry the switch out. It's held in place with a couple of tabs. A small screwdriver can be used to pry the switch out. Be sure to disconnect the power first. Please let me know if there is anything else you need. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Hi Leisa and AnneJ, I know this conversation is from 2013 but I decided to google search on this exact problem I'm having with my refrigerator and voila! It brought me here. :) I'm just curious as to if replacing the switch was the solution? My light was going on and off maybe once a week but now most of the day it remains off so I think it's time. The light on the outside water dispenser stays on, it is not affected though. Thanks!
