Q:

flashing setting controls 79577249601 Kenmore Elite Refrigerator

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com. I will be more than happy to assist you. I can understand any frustration you may have experienced with regards to your unit. Let’s see what we can do for you.

From what you have said it sounds like the fridge is in sales demo mode. If this is the case and to get it out of that mode press and hold the ultra-ice and refrigerator temp control buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds. This should set back to normal operation. If your fridge is cooling properly then is wouldn’t be in sales demo mode.

Hope this information has helped you. If you are not comfortable doing this repair you can click here to schedule a technician or call toll free 1-800-469-4663. Again, thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com.

The information you have already received is correct. There is an updated light socket harness assembly # 6621JK2003B that will need to be installed and it may also need an updated main board. Unfortunately, the model numbers listed are not complete. To determine for sure about the main board, a complete model and serial number will be needed. A technician will be required to make this repair. I'm listing a site you can access, to have at tech come out. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

I have had to use an oven mitt to take the light bulbs out of my refridgerator since we noticed that the food was warm and the lights would not turn off no matter what we tried. We figure we were only steps away from a fire! I have the Kenmore Elite model #795.77249601, serial # 708MRHR11081 - bought in 2009 and no existing warranty. I called Sears and was told that I'd have to pay to have a repair tech come to fix. Can you tell me if my model is listed as a "problem" and will Sears cover the cost to repair?

I had a repair man out and the new parts were ordered and he came back and installed them,, the light compartment and the circuit board and the same thing happened again 3 days later. Is there a new part they are not giving me. This must have been updated by now. I have Model # 79577562600 (bought in 2008) I have to say Sears didn't charge me for this repair but I would like to have it fixed this time correctly.

Q:

Why are there silver specks on my ice cubes?

A:

Any type of specks on the ice cubes can be of concern. The link provided below is a similar problem with the ice but on a different refrigerator. It may be helpful while an expert responds to your specific question.

Thank you, I did check the link. That problem was related more to ice that is crushed. My refrig. only makes cubes. I put in a new filter so maybe it is carbon in the cubes.

Thank you for submitting your question. The information Anna provided was good. The silver specs are not going to be carbon bits from the new filter. If there was any debris from the water filter it would be black or gray. The silver specs that you're experiencing sound like metal shavings from the auger that is probably over heating from the defrost heater not cycling properly in the ice maker. So, as the auger is turing the shavings are grinding off of the auger. I recommend replacing the ice maker. The ice maker is part number 5989JA0002Q priced at $133.24. You can order parts from our Sears Parts Direct web site. If you require further assistance, please reply back to this thread with more details. Thank you for choosing Manage My Life.

Thank you. Is the icemaker hard to install? Does this problem affect the filtered water at all?

A:

This will not effect the filtered water. You can definitely replace the ice maker yourself. To remove the old icemaker, loosen the 2 screws holding it at the top and slide the icemaker upward to free it or you can just remove the screws and top supports completely. Now with the icemaker free, you can disconnect the harness and remove the ice maker. Please let me know if you need more assistance.

The above query is quite a reason to be questioned about. Any type of specks on the ice cubes is a huge reason to worry about. I really think the silver specs you're experiencing actually sound more of like metal shavings which is perhaps because of the over heating from the defrost heater not cycling properly in the ice maker. This is what I am ascertaining from the above query.
