Thank you for your question. I know it can be disappointing when the icemaker is not working properly. The information you have received from Dezeray is very good. Even though it's for a different model, the icemaker production will still depend, on the freezer temperature and the icemaker thermostat. If the temperature is ok, the icemaker # 5989JA0002Q will probably need to be replaced. The thermostat is not a separate part. The icemaker is available at http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/5989JA0002Q/0046/795&sid=MMLxexpertxmerch . I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will be glad to assist you further.

I have a Kenmore Elite 79576083600 -- the ice maker is not making ice. Do we need to pull it out from the cabinet area it is in and look at the back portion - checking the water line and valve? My husband and I really do not know what to do - just taking a guess.

I asked my question and then I saw something on this page for help -- So, we now know where to look - or we guess to look in the back somewhere ... Several problems can interfere with making ice´┐Ż??the ice maker could be jammed, the freezer might be too warm, a dirty water filter or kinked water line could be blocking water flow, or the water valve could be shut off or faulty. If none of these problems is the cause, the ice maker could be malfunctioning and require replacement.

I can understand your concern about the icemaker overfilling. If you have replaced the water valve, the most likely problem now will be the icemaker itself. A good check will be to cycle the icemaker and then watch it fill. If it starts overfilling, disconnect the power and if the water stops, it will indicate the icemaker # 5989JA0002Q is still calling for water and will need to be replaced. To cycle this icemaker press and hold the water level button for 3 seconds (see picture). I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, any additional details will be helpful and I will be glad to assist you further.
