Q:

model number 79575194401, Kenmore Elite French dr refrigerator. Ice maker problems. 79575194401

A:

Thank you for your inquiry on your Kenmore Refrigerator, Model: 795.75194401. From reviewing the details on your model, some are listed the icemaker itself can fail, the water valve may not open, the optic boards can fail, the fill tube can freeze up. Freezer temperature not cold enough (should be 0 – 5 degrees). The blinking led light can be flashing a code that will indicate the problem. If it flashes 2 times pauses and continues this while the door is open, it will be normal and if it stays on continuous, when the flapper door on the left side is held in, it indicates the boards are ok. I’m attaching a chart for the led indicator. When checking this icemaker, tape the little flapper door shut and disconnect power to the refrigerator. To check this icemaker, slide it out, so the front cover can be removed, to access some test terminals. There is a clip located on the back right corner of the icemaker that will need to be removed, to slide the icemaker out. There will be a screw at the bottom of the clip holding it. I’m sending a picture with instructions to remove this clip. With the clip removed, slide the icemaker out and remove the front cover. You will now see the test terminals. Now remove the 3 screws holding the receiver board on the right side pull the board out and disconnect the harness from the board. Place a jumper between the black and black/white wires. Now use a second jumper and place it between the L – V terminals on the module. Reconnect the power and with both jumpers in place, water should now flow to the icemaker (be prepared to catch water from the fill tube). If water does flow, the icemaker will need to be replaced. If no water flows but you can hear a humming noise, the water valve will need to be replaced. If nothing at all happens, some voltage checks will need to be made. I hope this will help you.

Safety Warning: Before beginning the repair, disconnect the direct power supply to the refrigerator to prevent the risk of injury or any electrical shock.

Thank you for your question. I'm sorry you are having this problem. Normally, replacing the main control board will solve this problem. However, if it's still happening, disconnect the power to the unit and check the wiring connection at the top door hinge for a loose wire or connection. If it seems ok, this could be a problem with the display control # 3211JJ2001D or it will be a problem with the wiring inside the door. If the problem is with the wiring inside the door, the complete door will need to be replaced. I'm attaching a picture of how to access the dispenser and control board. Be sure to disconnect power to the unit first. I would recommend having a technician check this before replacing the control or getting a new door. I hope this will help you.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

Why does the auto defrost drain system freeze closed and leak into the freezer bottom?

A:

The drain will freeze up if the temperature in the freezer gets too cold (below zero) and sometimes air will migrate back up through the bottom of the drain. You can check the temperature by placing a thermometer between some packages. If the temperature is too cold, just adjust the temp setting to a warmer setting. If the temperature is ok, there is an updated drain trap # 5251JJ2003A that can be installed under the unit and is available at www.searspartsdirect.com .

You have indicated in answer to initial Q that an updated drain tube is available. How does it install (onto existing drain nipple? Require internal part replaced?) Can I speak to a Tech directly??
