Question and Answers

Q:

Replaced water valve but the new valve does not work. What can be done to correct the problem? Model #79551312011

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com and being a valued member.  I can certainly understand how frustrating it can be when your water vavle is not working properly.

When you change your water filter you will need to purge the line for any air for about 5 minutes. This should allow water to flow. Make sure the water supply is connected and flowing. Since you just purchased the water valve I recommend calling Customer care to see if you have a defective water valve. The next step would be to get a technician.

Q:

Prong on part 606A not secure 79551312011 Kenmore Refrigerator

A:

I looked at the motor drive assembly on this website and in the photo, there appears to be some type of black, square nut that may perhaps secure the U-shaped prong. Mine doesn't have that. Perhaps it broke off, but I didn't find it in the freezer anywhere.

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect. I can certainly understand how frustrating it can be when the prong is loose on your ice bin. I did look into the model number you have provided and I do apologize the ice bin parts are sold as one piece. We do not sell the parts separately. In order to fix the issue you are having you will need to replace the ice bin.

Even after I clearly stated that the problem was not with my ice bin, Natasha "the expert" tells me I need a new ice bin. Clearly, these experts aren't qualified to be answering any questions. Well, for anybody with this same problem, here is what I did: That U-shaped piece of metal connected to the auger drive motor that turns the ice bucker spins freely, instead of being secured in place on the shaft that is driven by the motor. I found the proper sized nut to thread onto the shaft on top of that prong. That nut threaded down only so far and was secure on the shaft. I used that to anchor/connect the U-shaped prong to the shaft using JB Weld Steel Stik Epoxy. I molded the epoxy around the shaft and pressed it into the prong and molded it around the prong and then screwed the nut on, smashing into the epoxy and I further molded the epoxy around the nut, pressing it firmly against the sides, so once it cured the prong was full connected to the nut. I removed the unit, before doing all this, as I wasn't sure if it would cure in the freezer and it was much easier to work with. You have to flip the unit in the freezer to access the wires to disconnect them. There are three separate plug in terminals and two ground wires that screw in, so you definitely need to flip the unit around to access it all. At first, it didn't flip over easily, but I eventually got it. Working like a champ, now!
