Question and Answers

Q:

noise from the conventional oven fan

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

I assume you meant to say the "convection fan" is noisy.

The noise could be the convection fan blade rubbing the convection fan cover in the oven cavity that circulates the oven heat or it could be the fan blade on the convection fan motor used to help keep the convection fan motor cool.

Remove the convection fan cover from the rear wall inside the oven cavity and look to see if the fan blade is rubbing. Rotate the fan blade and you may find where it may be rubbing. If the fan blade does not appear to be rubbing, then I would remove the rear cover to access the convection fan motor and see if the cooling fan blade is loose or rubbing. If neither fan blade is rubbing, then it will likely have to have the convection fan motor replaced.

I added a link to Searspartsdirect if you find you need to replace the convection fan motor. The convection fan motor kit for Kenmore range model 790.97429901 is part #5304467898. NOTE: Disconnect the range from the power supply before removing the back panel and inspecting or replacing the fan motor.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

I have a question. I accidentally spilled water onto my stove and then it proceeded to shutoff after a few minutes of cleaning up the water. This water was spilled on the left side of the stove and ended up on the stove top. One burner had been in use and was turned off at the time but was still warm. I cannot figure out why this happened since it does not appear that I spilled water to anything vital. I have tried unplugging it and turning the breaker on and off. I discovered that if I turn on a burner I can then reset the clock but the burner does not come on. Additionally, when I turn the burner off the clock turns off. Also, I have tried to turn the oven on but after I choose a temperature and hit start the oven shuts off. I have tried to figure out if there is a reset but cannot find any information on how to do this if at all possible.

I know that it can be very frustrating to have issues with your range. From what you are describing it sounds like you have a short in the wiring harness. Anytime you use the oven and burner together, it is overloading the unit. This is what is causing the breaker to pop. Normally, I would recommend that your replace the wiring harness, but this is a very complicated repair. I would suggest you have a technician repair this for you. Thanks for the information about your range model 790.97429901; sorry you are having a problem, I will be glad to assist you. Based on your description of the burner not working and the hot surface indicator staying on I would say there could be a problem with the element and the infinite switch.  Built into the element is the hot surface indicator switch that has apparently failed causing the hot surface light to be on all the time.  The burner not coming on could be the element, wiring, or the switch (infinite switch) that controls the burner.  You will have to test the component operation to determine the exact cause. I have attached a wiring diagram for your convenience. You will want to verify if the switch is sending power to the element, if not switch bad if there is power then element is bad.
